20 Essential Chrome Extensions for Digital Marketers

With Chrome being by far the most used browser today and it being mine (and many other digital marketers) personal favourite, I thought I’d share my top, free Chrome extensions with the world. These are always my ‘go to’ extensions that I must have on my browser.

These extensions can save huge amounts of time and simplify many common tasks that online marketers deal with on a daily basis.

So, let’s take a look at them…

Yet Another Flags

Yet Another Flags

Whether you’re looking for link prospects or doing a little competitive analysis, it’s often useful to see which country the site you’re looking at is hosted in. Enter Yet Another Flags, a simple plugin that displays the flag of the country the site is hosted in, simple as that.

Pocket

Pocket

If you’re like me, you regularly have an overload of open tabs with stuff you’re hoping to read. Pocket is a great extension that allows you to save all of the stuff you’re hoping to read (or have read and loved) in one convenient place. You can also tag articles to keep things well organised. The iPhone and Android apps make it easy to catch up with your reading on the bus, train or during those sleepless nights.

Tip: If you’re looking at your phone or tablet late at night, use an app like Flux or Twilight to filter out the blue light. Believe it or not, this will help you sleep better.

OneTab

OneTab

I always seem to have about 50 tabs open and I know I’m not the only one. Sometimes this can become a bit of an unmanageable mess so here is OneTab to the rescue. OneTab moves all of your tabs into one tab in a list format. You can then open them later all at once or open them one by one with just a click. You can even name your tab lists to keep them organised.

Open SEO Stats

Open SEO Stats

Get a quick view of website stats and on-page data such as title tag, meta description, header tags, number of internal/external links on the page etc. Very useful for a quick overview of any webpage.

SEO Minion

SEO Minion

This extension shows on-page info similar to Open SEO Stats but goes into a bit more detail. It also has some additional cool features that highlight all links on a page and check for broken links (this also checks for internal redirects and other errors).

Loom

Loom

If you want to record quick videos of perhaps yourself talking to camera, a screen share or perhaps a screen share with your face talking in the bottom corner, say hi to Loom. You can even embed these straight into an email in Gmail. Very handy for sending quick instructions to someone.

Ayima Page Insights

Ayima Page Insights

If you’re involved in SEO or even if you’re just involved in running a website, this extension is amazingly useful. Want to know if there are potential issues in the source code of the page you’re looking at? Is the page noindex or does it have a canonical tag pointing to another page? Rather than having to root around in the source code, just click on this extension when it’s amber or red and it’ll let you know what the issues are immediately.

Ayima Redirect Path

Ayima Redirect Path

When visiting a URL, this tool is great for checking the status code. This can be really handy for picking up on 302 redirects or 301 redirect chains etc. These Ayima extensions are two of my favourites in this list and are essential for anyone working in SEO.

BuiltWith

BuiltWith

What to quickly know whether a website you’re looking at was built with WordPress, Magento, Joomla, or a custom build? Find out with one click using this extension.

Check My Links

Check My Links

With Check My Links, you can quickly scan a page for broken links. As well as being great for checking the quality of your own pages, this useful tool is also great for broken link building.

The Great Suspender

The Great Suspender

As I mentioned early, I’m terrible for having loads of tabs open at once. This can be a real drain on your machine's resources but The Great Suspender resolves this by temporarily suspending tabs that haven’t been used for a set time. Want to use it again?… fine, just go to the tab and click anywhere and it’ll reload again.

Buffer

Buffer

Buffer has become a hugely popular social scheduling tool and this extension makes sharing/scheduling great content you find online as simple as a couple of clicks.

Majestic

Majestic

Majestic is great for backlink analysis but this extension makes checking a page/site sooo quick. Get an instant overview of a webpage and domain's backlink profile with just one click.

Keywords Everywhere

Keywords Everywhere

I love this tool. Ever search for something in Google and wonder what the search volume of that term is? Ever look at the related searches and wonder about the search volume of those? Wonder no more. Keywords Everywhere shows you the search volumes under every Google search you perform. It also displays search volumes next to the related searches as well as pulling in its own 'related searches' and 'people also searched for' lists on the right hand side of the search results. It also works in Google Search Console, Google Analytics, YouTube, Bing, Answer The Public and a number of other sites and tools. Oh and it pulls in CPC data too.

Google Tag Assistant

Google Tag Assistant

Want to see what tracking codes are set up on a page, either on the page itself or through Tag Manager? This to is extremely useful and will pick up on issues and errors too.

Ahrefs

Ahrefs

Ahrefs has grown into quite an immense tool and this extension adds some icing to that. Another great tool for checking backlink data but this will also allow you to assess backlink profiles directly in Google search results.

Lighthouse

Lighthouse

I think everyone know by now that page speed is important. This handy little extension from Google not only assesses your page speed but also comes back with lots of recommendations.

Eye Dropper

Eye Dropper

Ever seen a colour on a webpage but been unable to quickly determine exactly what colour it is? Problem solved with Eye Dropper.

Fontface Ninja

Fontface Ninja

As with Eye Dropper, have you even looked at a page and thought “I love that font, what is it?” or “that font is very readable, what size is that?”… well these exciting questions are answered with Fontface Ninja. Activate the extension and then just hover over some text and a pop out will tell you the font and sizing.

Joxi

Joxi

I love this extension. I used Awesome Screenshot for a while but it was so buggy and often wouldn’t do anything. Joxi is great for taking quick snapshots of a webpage. You can then easily annotate with boxes, circles and arrows etc before cropping and blurring sensitive information and then saving or copying the final image. Great for audits and reports or to just highlight a quick issue on a webpage to your developer. I use this extension a lot!

Bonus Extension:

QuizCards: Spanish

I’ve been trying to learn Spanish for a while and the biggest issue I find with learning a language is trying to find the time to practice. This extension is useful for just a quick burst of learning/testing with popup flash cards to refresh your vocab.

So those are my favourites. I know there are probably endless amounts of useful extensions out there that I’m not aware of. What do you have in your browser?
